35MM: A Musical Exhibition – Powerful Intimate Brisbane Production

Brisbane Musical Theatre is booming! From April 18th to May 4th, the PIP Theatre in Milton plays host to an innovative and captivating production titled ’35MM: A Musical Exhibition’ presented by industry leaders Passion Productions and Allentertainment. This unique theatrical experience challenges the conventional norms of musical storytelling by weaving together a series of poignant and evocative songs inspired by individual photographs. Each photo serves as a catalyst for a musical vignette, offering a glimpse into the hidden narratives and emotions captured within.

The concept of ’35MM’ is as intriguing as it is ambitious. With each snapshot sparking a different melody, the audience is invited to embark on a journey through a spectrum of human experiences and emotions.

Music and Lyrics by Ryan Scott Oliver based on Photographs by Matthew Murphy, enduring moments of joy and intimacy to darker themes touching on subjects like domestic violence, sexual assault, and mortality, the production delves fearlessly into the complexities of life.

One of the standout features of this exhibition is the passionate and powerful performances delivered by a talented ensemble of local artists. Aurélie Roque, Rae Rose, Mabelle Maynard, Bethanie Walsh, Samantha Sherrin, Connor Clarke, and Tomer Dimanstein bring these narratives to life with their emotive renditions. The actors’ commitment to their roles is palpable, drawing the audience deeper into the emotional landscape of each story.

The immersive nature of the performance is enhanced by the theatre’s intimate setting, adorned with scattered polaroid images that mirror the themes explored on stage. The inclusion of a live band adds a dynamic layer to the production, underscoring the emotional resonance of each musical composition.

35MM: A Musical Exhibition, is a testament to the creative potential of musical theatre, pushing boundaries and redefining the genre. Passion Productions and Allentertainment have crafted a thought-provoking and engaging experience that lingers long after the final note fades. This production is a must-see for those seeking a theatrical encounter that is as unconventional as it is unforgettable.
