A Mesmerising Interactive Journey || Metaverse of Magic at QPAC

Prepare to be spellbound as the Metaverse of Magic unfolds its captivating spectacle at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) in Brisbane, presented by Jones Theatrical Group. From the very beginning, the audience participation took center stage, setting the tone for an evening that seamlessly blends traditional magic with cutting-edge technology.

The Metaverse of Magic took audience participation to the next level with four interactive games played on the audience’s phones. The incorporation of a real-time leaderboard added a competitive edge, transforming the theater into a dynamic gaming arena.

Lennox, played by real life viral TikTok influencer Ash Magic, found himself at the heart of the magic as he was chosen to physically join in on the four level game where every audience member had the choice to play along on their devices with each person sorted into one of the four teams.

The first level involved Australian magician Charli Ashby. The daring sawing-in-half routine showcased Charli’s infectious enthusiasm and set the tone for an interactive and immersive experience that would unfold throughout the show.

The Taiwanese magician, Horret Wu dazzled with mind-bending card tricks, effortlessly turning ordinary cards into vibrant hues of green. The fusion of technology and sleight of hand brought a modern twist to classic illusions, leaving the audience in awe of the seamless integration.

The Netherlands performer, Sabine Van Diemen enchanted the crowd with an elegant display of a whip that she used to slice off flower petals, incorporating fire, archery with balloons with the assistants risking it all for the act, and executing tricks in reverse. The artistry and grace in each movement added an extra layer of sophistication to the performance.

The Japanese magician, Hara wove a magical narrative, featuring a dove, stunning costume changes, and a mesmerising display of illusion using projection technology to his advantage. The seamless transitions between acts showcased the performer’s dedication to their craft, leaving the audience in suspense and wonder.

The ensemble dancers enhanced the magical atmosphere with their visual spectacle, providing a dynamic backdrop to the magic acts.

In a unique twist, a digital voice (Digi) played by Erin Bruce guided Lennox through the performance, offering an innovative touch to the show. The occasional bluntness and sarcasm coupled with story-led glitches was an exciting and playful way to keep the audience on the edge of their seats.
